Word 2001 Mac won't open

I hae a Mac G4 running in OS X and MS Office 2001 running in OS 9.2. Yesterday, I uninstalled Office: Mac 2001 and re-installed it because the Sub Menus were missing in Word, so I couldn't use Word. I followed instructions I found on this site. After restarting my Mac, I was able to open a document, format it and print it. When I tried to open a document today, the Word Icon bounced in the dock, but nothing happened. Normally, OS 9 would open and I'd get a blank Word document

Can anyone tell me how to fix this? And does anyone know why all these problems are occurring NOW, after using Word for THREE YEARS? Thanks!!

Similar issues are easily addressed in the Windows version of Word, but you
should post to the Mac Word or Office newsgroups for Mac specific
information.

Thanks for your reply, but HOW? How can I get to the area for discussion about Word 2001 for Macintosh? When I type in a question using Word 2001 or Word 2001 for Mac, nothing happens.

I tried to set up a newsgroup account on the Microsoft website, but the instructions don't work. I tried scrolling down the index (Microsoft website) under Community Newsgroups to get to Word, but the list doesn't scroll down far enough

If you have a NNTP newsreader on your Mac, then one of the above links may
open it and take you to the right newsgroups.

You don't need to set up an account for the web interface.

(Microsoft website) under Community Newsgroups to get to Word, but
the list doesn't scroll down far enough.

Mike, I'm pretty sure that first link you cite is out of date. The Mac
Office traffic seems to all be on:

microsoft.public.mac.office.word (or .excel, .powerpoint, .entourage, fyi)
microsoft.public.mac.office

Neschie, don't use the MS Communities interface to post there, if possible,
because it doesn't work well with Entourage....

Use Google Groups if you want a web interface, or Entourage should not take
you but a few minutes to set up for newsreader (create a fake address that
you never plan on checking to post to NGs, to prevent spam). BUT, I suspect
if you use Google Groups to search the Mac groups for "Word won't open" or
something similar, you may find the answer w/o posting.

Mike, I'm pretty sure that first link you cite is out of date.

They came straight off the Microsoft news server, but I didn't botheer to
check traffic - I never go to those groups.

Mike & Dayo, thank you both. I'll try your suggestions. I truly appreciate your help. I live in the "Boonies" in the Northeast, IBM territory. Not a lot of Mac people around. I used to work in high tech in Silicon Valley, with lots of young people who kept me up-to-date and computer savvy. I've been back here for 11 years and totally out of touch. No Mac User Groups here, either.

I added this page to my Favorites because I can't figure out how to navigate the MS website to get back to this section again
