Word 2001: Menus won't pop-up

Hi,

I have a Powerbook, Mac OS 9.1, 320 MB of RAM, and recently on Word
2001 the menus have refused to appear when I click on the menu bar
("File" and "Edit" menus will come up, along with "Help," but nothing
else). Before this began happening, Word would crash when I'd click on
"Windows" and try to switch from one document to another. The style
palettes work fine.

Any help you can give will be much appreciated, thank you!!
