Word 2001 Special Edition

Everytime I try to open a document I get a error message that reads "
There is not enough memory or disk space to complete the operation"

I've tried adding more memory to Word, I've tried all the updates I
could find, tried all the things Microsoft suggested with no luck.

Any help would be great!

Have you seen this article? Applies directly to your case:
<http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/WordMac/DiskFullError.htm>

Note, if you are using Safari, you may have to hit "repload" a few times in
order to see it, due to a bug in Safari. You can read more about that here:
<http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/WordMac/index.htm> - it will be in the red type.

If you're only having problems when trying to open a document, then the Disk
Full workaround that Walt pointed you to may not help, since it has to do
with getting the error message when trying to Save.

You say you added more memory to Word. Was it Preferred memory? And how
much? Here's what we recommend:

Navigate to the Word application in the Finder, select it and Get Info
(Command i). Go to the Memory pane and raise Word's Preferred memory to
48000K (leave Minimum memory alone). Also, be sure Virtual Memory is turned
on (Control Panels> Memory).

When you're done, rebuild your desktop and then try again. Post back if
this doesn't help.

Okay, thats what I already tried. I raised word's preferred memory
only to 50000K and Virtural Memory is already on.

And I tried to rebuild my desktop and I'm still having the problem.

(You don't need to post your responses more than once. If you don't see
your post right away, that's because there can be a delay of hours when
using Google. If you'd like to learn how to use Entourage as a newsreader,
which is the fastest method, we can show you how.)

Does this problem occur with all documents or with one in particular?

If it's one document, post back with details about the source of the
document and anything else you can think of that might be relevant.

If it's with all documents, then I don't know what to suggest short of doing
a complete uninstall and reinstall of the software. If no one has a better
suggestion, here's the procedure (make the obvious adjustments for the
Special Edition):

-- If these files are important to you, back them up on external media for
later reinstallation:

Normal Template: Applications>Microsoft Office 2001>Templates
My Templates (your custom templates): same as above
Custom Dictionary: System Folder>Preferences>Microsoft
AutoCorrect List (Office ACL English): same as above
Preferences/Settings files for the other Office applications.

-- Download the Office 2001 Remover from
<http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx?pid=download&location=/mac/down
load/office2001/RemoveOffice.xml&secid=10&ssid=3&flgnosysreq=False>. DO NOT
use the remover from the Office 2001 CD; it is not up-to-date.

-- With all Office applications closed, run it. That searches your hard
disk, and particularly your System folder, to make sure everything is
removed.

-- Rebuild the desktop.

-- Reinstall Office 2001 from the CD and reinstall any of the Value Pack
items that you want.

-- Start each Office 2001 application once to cause it to initialize itself.

-- Download and install the "Microsoft Office 2001 Combined Update 9.0.4"
from Mactopia.com
(<http://www.microsoft.com/mac/download/default.asp#Office2001>).

-- Rebuild the desktop.

Hope this helps.
