Word 2001: Word Wrap isn't wrapping

Howdy all, hope you can help me out. I'm trying to assist a fellow with his
G3, OS 8.6. The trouble is that since installing Word 2001, coming from 5.1
I believe, when he opens his old documents, they don't really word wrap,
instead of the word dropping to the next line, the first however many
letters are on one line, and the rest are on the next.

Any thoughts?

In particular he should be sure he has updated and, if that doesn't help, he
should try testing his Normal template and his Preferences.
