Word 2002 annoying issue

I have a problem that's just started occuring with Word 2002.

Every time I turn it on it says:

Word cannot open the existing (normal).

I click ok. There is not a problem until I come to shutting it down. It will
say:

The file normal already exists. Do you want to replace the existing file?

This has happened before and usually I just replace it after a crash or
something but this time I say yes and it says:

You cannot save while the file is in use by another process. Try saving the
file with a new name.

Now I can't seem to find any process that's running that might be clashing
nor can I seem to resolve it by saving with a new name. The problem just
keeps on happening.

Any ideas please??

Most of these symptoms are usually caused by the Norton Office Plug-in. If
you are running Norton AntiVirus, disable the plug-in.
