Word 2002 crashes from taskbar

Here goes my 3rd attempt to obtain help on this issue:

When I am working with Word XP files, I often move to
another application, and when I return to Word by
clicking the icon on the taskbar, Word just closes
without a warning, without an error message, nothing. The
same problem happens occasionally when I move away from
Word to another application. If anyone knows how to solve
this problem, I would be most grateful. I use Windows XP
home edition and Office XP.

I suspect you've encountered a bug in the Handwriting Recognition
services. Try the following:

- Open your Control Panel
- Open Regional and Language Settings
- Select the Language tab
- Click Details
- Remove Handwriting Recognition

Let us know what you find! :)

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.

Beth, you are amazing! I struggled with this problem for
weeks, and yet the solution was so simple--though I
haven't a clue how you would know that the handwriting
recognition was the culprit! Thank you so much for your
willingness to help. The problem is gone, and I no longer
waste time reloading Word. I hardly dare believe the
problem is really gone, but it does seem to have
disappeared. I will also inform DLaws
([email protected]), who requested this group's
help for the same problem a few weeks ago. This solution
is worth noting in the Microsoft Knowledge Base. Thanks
again :)

You're more than welcome. I'm just glad to hear the problem is
resolved. :)

I spent a few months on this issue since I was able to duplicate it on
my computer as well. The problem didn't occur in Word 2000 but it did
in Word 2002 and Word 2003 (beta). I finally asked myself what does
Word 2002 and Word 2003 have that Word 2000 doesn't? Speech
recognition/language tools came to mind. I suspect I just got lucky.

Also, I added Handwriting Recognition back and have yet to encounter
the problem again. :)
