word 2002 crashes on any keystroke

I recently installed explorer 7.0 and the 2002 security upgrades for word
and office professional 2002 and shortly thereafter began experiencing a
word crash with any key stroke in an open document or new document.
I've tried many things including: uninstalling 2006 Norton System works and
Norton Internet Security; deleting printer drivers; working throught both of
the help documents on this website called respectively "Problems opening
word" (located at http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/ApplicationErrors.htm) and
"Files opened for editing are read only" (located at
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/LockedFiles.htm)
The microsoft link that comes up at the crash point says that I shoudl
upgrade. It seems unreasonable/illogical that as a result of installing the
new explorer 7.0 that I should be forced into an upgrade. The rest of the
office Professional 2002 with security upgrades has been and continue to
work fine.

Thank you for any input.

The two usual reasons for crashing on a keystroke are a corrupt or
incompatible printer or graphics driver. I suggest as a first port of call,
checking both manufacturer's support sites and downloading and installing
the latest drivers.

Test again. If it still crashes, try starting Word in Safe Mode. From Start,
Run, type in

winword/a

and press enter. This starts Word in its default install condition bypassing
all third party addins, customizations, macros and templates. Does it work
now?

I tried starting in safe mode with no success. I uninstalled and removed
all the printer drivers and Word still crashes on first keystroke. I went
out and purchased Office 2007 and have the same problem. Please help I have
already spent $300 on a computer technician who could not solve it, removed
my Norton programs and now have bought this new program and I am in the same
place as when I started. I really appreciate any more suggestions. I don't
have any idea what to do next. Thank you for your thoughts.
