Word 2002 crashes on save

I am using Word 2002 to type medical reports. I use a
template and then re-save the document under a different
name when the report is completed. I try to remember to
save often, but sometimes when I hit CTRL-S or try to
save on closing the document, I get an error message. I
can't remember exactly what it says, but it gives me the
option of sending an error report, so I do. I downloaded
some updates for Office, which didn't solve the problem.
It usually recovers my report, but sometimes I lose it.
Does anyone know what could cause this and what to do to
correct it? Thank you.

This is what it says:

Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to
close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

The information you are working on might be lost.
Microsoft Word can try to recover it for you.

Then it has a check box for "Recover my work and restart
Microsoft Word."

Please tell Microsoft about this problem.

Then it gives an option to send an error report.

I did find some fixes in the Microsoft web site that I
tried. So far it has been ok, but it usually happens
after I've been working a while and have saved several
reports.
