Word 2002 Crashing repeatedly since updates

J

Jeanne McCafferty

I am a home office computer consultant, and my experience
with Microsoft and Word over the last few weeks has me
seriously considering Linux.

Not only have I spent the majority of my time dealing
with the security problems and patches for my own and my
clients' computers, I find now that my productivity in my
office is seriously affected by repeated and frequest
crashes on Word. While Word 2002 did crash occasionally
on me before, I find the frequency jumped alarmingly over
the last few weeks since I installed the Win XP updates
and the Office Updates.

Does anyone have suggestions as to what is happening -
and/or to which updates I should uninstall if possible??

Thanks!

Although what I'm experiencing with WordXP on WinXP is
not crashing but a memory leak, I will try to apply your
suggestions. Unless you have other fixes for memory leaks.

Also, I'm using Norton antivirus. What are the issues
with it?

Thanks /gio

Yes. NAV causes serious problems with Word. Open NAV and disable the Office
Plug-in. This will not affect your security in the slightest.

Ok thanks will do that.

Anyway, my main question which i posted but got no
replies is about word leaking memory.

I just noticed lately that whenever I start word by
itself or as the outlook email editor, the memory used
(as seen through the winword.exe process in task manager)
is rapidly increasing without stop.

Is this a known issue? What are the fixes?

OS: WinXP
OfficeXP
