Word 2002 ... disappears

J

Jay Feldman

Hi,

I'm running Office XP with all the latest updates on Windows XP Home Ed.
This computer seems to have ample resources to run Office XP (256 MB RAM,
2.2GHz processor), however, I am having troubles with Word 2002.

When I have multiple word files open and I click minimize, occasionally all
of the Word Documents close out without even bringing up a dialog box.
This happens whether I select minimize from right clicking in the taskbar or
clicking on the button. When I open word again, it says it has Autorecovered
some of my work or something like that.
What can I do to fix this?

Thanks a lot!

Glad to hear it, and thanks for the feedback. If you don't use
handwriting recognition, then you don't need to reinstall it, and Word
will work just fine without it. If you do use it, then uninstalling and
reinstalling the feature should fix the problem.

Actually, if you take a look at the article you cited, it isn't
necessary to uninstall it. :)

It's just a matter of removing it from Regional and Language Options
in the Control Panel. Should you find you want to use it then it can
be added back in the Regional and Language Options and Word should
function normally.

I added Handwriting Recognition back since discovering this issue and
I have yet to encounter the bug again.
