Word 2002 doc appears empty in Word X

Rick

My associate uses Office 2002 under Windows XP Pro to create a multi-page
Word document and emails it to me (he's using Outlook, I'm using Entourage).

If I open it using Word X (with all the updates through 10.1.5 installed), I
see 5 blank lines with one gray square per line. If I open it using Word
2001 under Mac OS 9.2.2, I can open it with no problem.

There are no strange fonts or characters, but the document does utilize a few
simple tables.

Can anyone explain this and/or help me to read these documents in Word X?
Please post a reply here and also email to (e-mail address removed) with
"NOSPAM" removed.

Thanks,

Rick

Hi Rick,

Could be a problem with your Word X preferences. Go to Preferences> View
and uncheck "Image Placeholders" if it's checked. Does that do it? If not,
check your other prefs to see if something else is preventing the text from
displaying.

P.S. I don't mind the request to copy the response to you directly, but I
do mind the dialog box that requested I reply to you *only*.
