Word 2002 - error message at start and close

Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to
close. We are sorry for the inconvenience
AppName: winword.exe AppVer: 10.0.4524.0 ModName:
msvcrt.dll
ModVer: 6.1.9359.0 Offset: 000011cd

I get this error on Microsoft Word XP 2002 running
windows 2000 Pro operating system. I have tried to repair
it, uninstall and reinstall Office XP, no help. This only
started only a few days ago.

The problem occurs at startup most of the time.
Occassionly it occurs when trying to close app.

Help Please!!!

I had almost the exact problem except I could never get
word to start. Just received the polite error message.
Another post suggested using this web site to trouble
shoot.

I used the suggestions and it fixed my problem. It
turned out that Winfax installed a template file in
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates that word
didn't like. Removed the file and all is well. Word
starts up again.
