Hello,
I've got Office XP (SP3) with Microsoft Visio Professional (SP2)
running on Windows XP (latest updates, but not yet upgraded to SP2).
I can consistently manage to corrupt my Word 2002 documents as follows
(not sure if all steps are necessary):
Create a table.
Insert an object, Microsoft Visio Drawing (I use UML in my courses at
the university).
Select the object, Format -> Font -> check the "hidden" attribute.
Save the document.
When you quit Word and re-open the document, the embedded objects will
be corrupt, appearing as "Object" only. Although you can view them
(selecting the show hidden option in preferences or showing paragraphs
with the backwards P symbol), you won't be able to edit them.
Double-clicking results in the message "The object is corrupt or is no
longer available."
The worst is that printing the document causes my printer to crash.
Generating PDF manages to work without crashing, but the embedded
objects display only the message "Error! Objects cannot be created
from editing field codes."
Why do I want to hide the embedded objects? It's usefule for my exams.
It's a good way to do one version of the exam that contains the answer
key. Just selecting the "hidden" option on printing will generate the
answer key version.
So, how can I best report this bug officially to Microsoft? Is there
any way to get back the corrupted Visio documents? When I first
discovered this, I lost a lot of time -- it's the same as losing
several visio documents.
Regards,
Cris
