Word 2002 fails to update NUMPAGES correctly on printing

Since loading (some) Office XP patches and hotfixes multipage documents will no longer correctly print NUMPAGES.
E.G. in a 147 page document with 2 sections and a different first page header in section 1, on screen shows Page 1 of 147.
Both with and without the Update fields on print option set, asking for One page may give page 1 of 147, but asking for all pages or a multiple gives Page 1 of 1, Page 2 of 2 etc.
I suspect a hotfix post SP-2 dated July 27th 2003 but cannot find anything other than KB 823961 describing it.
! would like to know if it is the problem and how I may remove it is that is so.

Can anyone help?

Hi JR,

See the article ""Page X of Y" displays or prints as "Page 1 of 1," "Page 2
of 2" (or "Page 2 of 1") and so on" at:

http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/AppErrors/PageXofY.htm

Please post any further questions or followup to the newsgroups for the
benefit of others who may be interested. Unsolicited questions forwarded
directly to me will only be answered on a paid consulting basis.

Hope this helps
