The university where I attend/work has a computer lab
with new Windows XP computers loaded with, among other
things, both Office 2000 and Office XP. One of the group
policies set up for this lab remaps the My Documents
folder to a particular network location. I am trying to
set up a login method for one of the teachers that would
have the users connect with their normal user name but a
special password - different from the password they use
to access the network location of their documents folder.
Thus upon login, it asks for the correct name/pass for
that location. They do not need access to their documents
for this particular function, and in fact it would be
better if they did not have it, so I simply cancel out
the login box. The problem comes when Word 2002 is opened
and I bring up the Open dialog. The empty frame of the
dialog sits there for a second or two and then I get the
message that Word has crashed and do I want to send in an
error report. I assume this is happening because Word
can't access the My Documents folder, its default file
location. I can't even get to the File Locations portion
of the options dialog to change the default because it
crashes when I try to open that as well. This doesn't
happen in Word 2000, however, nor does it happen in
another lab where only Office XP is loaded and where the
group policies are slightly less strict. Is there a way I
can fix this problem? I already loaded the latest SP and
tried re-installing as well, and this does not occur in
either Office 2000 or Excel or Access 2002. Thanks for
any help you all can provide.
