word 2002 for xp crashing

I have a problem that appeared right after a power outage. I have a
dell Inspiron 8100 laptop with windows xp home and office xp 2002. I
installed word and it was working fine until the power flickered several
times and then went off for six hours. I did not lose anything since it
is a laptop and I have a battery, but now when I bring up word, it
starts to come up, brings up a blank document, but then after a few
moments I get a microsoft error message that says it needs to close down
word. It does this everytime and I can not seem to fix it. I even
removed it and reinstalled the program, but still it fails in the same
way. One thing I noticed though is that it no longer brings up the form
to register with microsoft for some reason. Could this be part of the
problem? Also, how do I completely remove office xp from my system so
that it I can load a clean version of office xp back onto my system and
not have it crash all the time.

Never mind. It finally started working after reinstalling for the 4th
or 5th time. The only thing different that I did was get rid of the
normal.dot file before I reinstalled, so, maybe that was the cause.

You'll note that reinstalling Office rarely fixes anything: it was almost
certainly a corrupt normal.dot.

Yea, it seems that way though I had renamed it and restarted word and it
was still failing. Still, it does appear that was the problem.
