I have an employee who has been having issues with word 2002 on a windows
2000 machine.

opening any word document either by clicking on the document or by opening
word>file>open results in app hang.

start>run> winword.exe /a works fine.

I have followed this page and still nada.

I reinstalled NAV corporate v9. no change.

I have already tried uninstalling office and reinstalling.

I want to try that again, this time making sure to remove any registry links
to office, as well as removing any office directories on the hdd.

What would the MVPs next step be?

Any help is appreciated.

If it hangs when you try to open a file but not with the /a switch
then I doubt NAV has anything to do with it.

More than likely you have an add-in causing the problem. You noted in
your previous post you check Word's Startup folder - what about the
Office\Startup folder located in the Office installation path? Did you
go to Tools/Templates and Add-ins and see if there were any global
templates listed?

It's also possible you have a COM Add-in causing the problem:

To determine whether or not you are using COM Add-In you can add the
"COM Add-in" command to your toolbar:

- Right-click any toolbar and select Customize
- On the Commands tab, select the Tools category
- Locate COM Add-Ins on the right
- Drag/Drop to a location of your choice

For more information on COM Add-Ins, see this article:

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.

Beth,

Thank you for your reply.

the installation path for office's startup folder c:\program
files\miscrosoft office\office10\startup\ is empty.

Tools\Templates and Add-ins-Global Templates is empty.

COM Add-ins has 2 listings (web page wizard & mappoint) I removed both and
still had the problem, and thats when I noticed the ruler lagging to display
along with the general freezing of word.

I ran across a word 2003 suggestion to update the video drivers and bingo
that seems to have fixed the issue.

for future reference: windows 2000, office 2002(xp), radeon VE card.

Thanks again for your time Beth!
