Word 2002 How to rename a template??

J

jimmy fallon

I find it hard to believe that in order to rename a
template I must first navigate through 6 folders in order
to get to the template folder, assuming I know the
location of it in the first place, and assuming I'm
supposed to know that the only way to see it is to "show
all files".
I don't think I should have to use the search function
just to rename a template.
Am I insane or am I just doing something wrong here. And
if this is the case then did they fix this obvious flaw
in word 2003?
thanks.

Why should I have too??
Why isn't it something I can do from the file menu, like
FILE_TEMPLATES?, then right click on a template and
rename... where is the logic?
I think this is bizarre...

Jimmy,

I can't provide an answer to why. I gave you a solution to the issue of
drilling down folders to the Templates. Use it if you choose.

Hi Jimmy,

Use Windows Explorer. Templates are no different from any other file to it.

Please post any further questions or followup to the newsgroups for the
benefit of others who may be interested. Unsolicited questions forwarded
directly to me will only be answered on a paid consulting basis.

Hope this helps

Hi James

Actually, there is a way to do this from within Word, so long as the
template is not open (when of course you cannot rename it). If you use File
New (before Word 2002) or 'General templates' from the task pane, Word
opens a dialog that shows all the templates in your templates folders.
Select the template, and right click you will see an entry for 'Properties'.
The dialog that opens enables you to rename the selected template.

THANK YOU!!
I"m sorry to sound frustrated but its so annoying to me
that I have to click properties, instead of RENAME.
How would anyone know that?
Can someone tell to where I can voice my complaints so as
not to clog up the newsgroups?

Thanks again.

Hi

I get to by templates in two clicks and I haven't done anything to configure
it to do so.

I go to 'start', new doc and my templates open. I can change the name at
this moment without having to open them or bring them up in explorer.

Hope this helps
