the bullet in place.

As long as i hit enter the next bullet comes up fine but
as soon as i have to restart the bullet, and press the
insert bullet button, the same error occurs.

Beth, thank you so much. You hit the nail on the head.
I know that corruption can happen many different ways,
but to your knowledge, is there anything in particular
that causes this corruption?

Again, thanks for the help. I have been fighting this
for awhile and finally gave up on figuring out the
problem myself...paul

Beth, may have spoke too soon. The bullets were not
indenting as I would like, obviously since the
customization is gone, but then when I went in to
customize the indent for a sublevel of the bullet, Word
again shut down.

I am certain all this is interelated but just don't know
how.

Thanks...Paul

I am using the stock fonts right now but have customized
with pictures in the past. is there a way i can prove or
disprove that by starting a new "default" document? I
don't know what default would be...Paul

Hmmm.... this could be caused by Registry corruption, corrupt
Normal.dot or global template and add-in.

I go with Registry corruption first. The Word/Data key (specifically
the Settings value) does hold some of the customizations found in the
Bullets and Numbering such as the font and character.

Exit Word and back in the Registry drill down to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Word\Data

and rename the Settings value. Or if you don't wish to preserve the
old value you can delete it.

If you want to know what the Data key stores and how to preserve the
majority of your preferences then take a look at:
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Customization/DataKeySettings.htm

Note the Bullet info isn't in the article but I haven't updated the
article to cover current versions of Word. :)

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.
