word 2002 locks-up after save attempts

i have posted this problem before, but thought i would
post again to see if someone might be able to help. i am
using word 2002 on a windows XP machine. word has a
tendency to lock-up when i save whatever i am working on.
i am unable to close the program and end task does not
work. when i do try to use end task, an error message pops
up saying something along the lines of, "word cannot be
closed. finish debugging or stop the debugger." this is a
very annoying and time consuming problem, as i have to end
up restarting the computer and lose all data that was
entered. please help! dell support directs me to contact
microsoft and microsoft support directs me to look in the
knowledge base articles. i have searched all over for an
answer and cannot find one. i have reinstalled word and
office. i have renamed normal.dot files. i have tried to
delete the normal.dot files. nothing seems to work. if
anyone can help me out please do. you may email me
personally if you like. thank you very much in advance.

If you are using Norton AntiVirus, try disabling the Office Plug-in.

i have read several posts on trying to disable norten
antivirus, however, when i start up my norton antivirus
engine (Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition 8.0), there is
no "options" tab that allows me to disable the office plug-
in.

I am also having this exact problem except it is when
opening Word documents. It only happens occasionally, but
the result is the same. The application cannot be closed
even with task manager and when you attempt to close it,
you get the debugging error message.

Any help would be appreciated.
