Word 2002 Locks up (Single document only)

I have a problem with a specific word document, it causes
both word 2002 and 2003 to lock up. The only way to
restore the application is to end the task.

I can open the document successfully in word pad but I was
wondering if there is a way to troubleshoot the document
and possibly repair it. I don't want to go threw the
trouble of refomatting the document even though I have
successfully recovered the text.

This is an isolated problem only and other files open
successfully in MS Word.

Any assistance would be appreciated in this matter!
