Word 2002 - Master Document

I need to create a master document with about 400
subdocuments added and a file size of 500 to 600 MB when
the files are expanded.

I used to do this on a computer with Windows 98SE, Word 97
and 300 MHz and 300 MB of RAM but it was really slow.

My new computer has Windows XP, Word 2002 and 2.4 GHz and
1.00 GB of RAM but the new Word master document will only
expand or allow files to around 450MB then just dies.

Why would a newer system and newer software have a lower
limit or is there a way to get around this limit and open
all of the files at once the way my old system and
software would do? Can any one help me?

The file size limit for Word docs is 32 MB exclusive of graphics. Unless
you've got a lot of graphics in those docs, then that's the problem. But see
