word 2002 not responding after paste special

Word 2002 SR-3 in a network with mozilla instead of outlook and IE, i copy
data in excel, goto word, edit paste special, paste link, excel object, then
word not rersponding.

same happens with slides made in powerpoint.

do you know what is going on?
