Word 2002 Problem

Ann

If anyone knows why an animated figure
(cycle/paperclip/notepad) is suddenly appearing every
time I go into Word 2002 program or document, please let
me know. I've tried logging off, but it comes back. It is
very distracting when working on a document. When I try
to close the document, it asks if I want to save, but if
I cancel it ignores the request and keeps coming back.
This has never happened before today. I am afraid this
may be some kind of security problem. Any help would be
appreciated.

Hi Ann,

Sounds like the Office Assistant has been turned on, it
will start up each time you open Word. To turn this
feature off, right-click the animation, and select Options
from the pop-up menu. A dialog box will open, uncheck 'Use
Office Assistant' checkbox, then click OK. This should
disable the Office Assistant, and it should stay closed
whenever you open Word.

This sounds like the Office Assistant. See
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Customization/TameAssistant.htm.

As for closing the document, if you try to close without saving, you will
always get a prompt to save. If you *want* to close without saving, the
proper response is No, not Cancel.

This animated gizmo is called the "Offcie Assistant".
Next time you see it, right click on it, then left click on
"Options". A new Window opens with 2 tabs at the top.
Click the "Options" tab and UNcheck the box that says "Use
the Office Assistant". Presto - No more animated
distractions!

Thanks to everybody for the help on getting rid of this
office assistant figure...I don't know how it suddenly
appeared when I'd never used it before, but now it's
gone. Thanks!
