Word 2002 Run Time Error

When I open word and start creating a document I get a
Microsoft Visual C++ Run Time Library pop up box that
says: Run time error. program:c:\program files\microsoft
office\office 10\WINWORD.EXE. Abnormal program
termination.

I have tried going back to DELL since I bought the
computer from them and they can't help and referred me to
Microsoft.
