word 2002 scanning problem

I need to be able to scan a text document as a document not a picture of a
document.When I try to do this word does not seem to understand some letters
and changes the format of the document.I end up with half words and half
gibberish.How can I get a true scan of what I'm putting in?
I have no problem buying word 2003 but since I do not exactly know where
the problem is'other than it not being with my hp scanning software;I have no
idea if this will correct iit.

Have you tried getting the latest driver for your HP Scanner? Try contacting
HP to get the latest update. Its just a patch or something.

If you need to check word 2003, download the trial version. But be very
careful. As far as possible, download the trial on some other version.
