Word 2002 Shutdown with Runtime Error abnormal program termination

After three or four lines on a new document a Runtime Error window comes up
and when I close it or click OK the document closes down and is lost, the
Runtime Error window has the following in it:
Program:C\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\WINWORD.EXE
and: abnormal program termination
How can I stop this
