Word 2002 slow to open but ok with winword /a

Chris

I have a computer with Word 2002. Word is very slow to open. It is also
slow when doing various taks, like cut and paste, even drawing after
scrolling. I looked at the MVP tips and it starts up much quicker when
using the /a switch. I went through all their suggestions but nothing fixes
the problem. Turning off Norton Anti-Virus on the machine makes Word load a
little bit faster but it's still slow compared to opening it with /a. Is
there anything else I can try or am I going to have to re-install?

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris,

Using the /A switch (or in Word 2002 or Word 2003 holding
down the ctrl key when starting Word) keeps add-ins and
attached templates, among other things, from loading when
you start Word.

From Start=>Find/Search look for and delete files found
with the string
~$*.*;*.tmp
then try starting Word. If still slow it may be an add in
from other software that's causing it. What else are you
running that puts a menu item or button into the Word toolbars
that isn't there when you start with the /a switch?

You don't want to disable Norton AV, just the Office Plug in
setting.
