Word 2002 smart tags causing document crashes

I have a user running Word XP, and when she tries to open certain
documents, Word crashes. Auto recovery runs and it opens to a blank
document.

This happens primarily with some older documents that were saved in
Word 97, but also on some newer files. (I know that she has a couple
that were sent to her as email attachments.)

Through a process of elimination, I've narrowed it down to smart tags.
If I don't let smart tags load, she can open the files without
problems. Just turning off the "Label text with smart tags" option in
AutoCorrect doesn't do the trick--if smart tags are loaded, the
document crashes.

For now, I've just moved the smart tags folder to a different location
so they don't load when Word opens, and she's working okay. It's kinda
a clunky way of dealing with the problem, however. Can anyone point me
in the direction of something a little more elegant than totally
disabling smart tags? We've had other users who have had similar
problems and would like to find a workaround for this.

Thanks,
Steve

Discovered the cause of the problems: We use Snagit as a screen
capture application and by default it installs an add-in to the Office
applications. Uninstalling the add-ins resolved the problem with
random document crashes.
