Word 2002 - unwanted text appears at cursor

Mike

I have a longstanding problem with unwanted letters or short words suddenly
appearing at the cursor in a doc for no apparent reason--nothing else is
happening at the computer. I'm using Office XP on Windows XP SP2. Is this a
known problem?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Usually this turns out to be Windows speech recognition, either
picking up noise in the room because the microphone is still turned
on, or trying to interpret electrical noise inside the computer. Turn
off the speech recognition software or, if you don't use it, uninstall
it.

Jay, thank you very much! That seems to have done it, and the short words
that were appearing seem to point to that kind of problem. I haven't used
voice recognition in a long time, and I would have never thought of it.

Thanks again for taking the time to help.

Mike
