Word 2002 Will not open any file

S

Sean

I've reinstalled twice already can't seem to open
anything.

I've played with the settings that I can get to and
nothing seems to make a difference

I can create and save a new file, but the program will
give me the message:
"The file *.* is unavailable"

I have administrator access on my windows XP home.
There are no additional networking programs running in
the background.

Hi Sean,

How are you opening the files? If you are opening the files outside
the application (other than using File/Open) then it sounds like the
Registered File Type needs to be recreated.

Go to Start/Run and run the following:

winword /r

Note that there is a space before the forward slash.

If that isn't the case or if the /r (regserver) switch doesn't work
then did you recently install the SP-2 patch for Office? If so and you
are also using Norton AV then chances are you have encountered a
conflict in the "Office Plug-in" option in Norton. In Norton go to
Norton Options and disable the Office Plug-in option found in the
Miscellaneous section.

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.
