Word 2002 won't save changes

I am having a problem in which I make changes to a
document in Word 2002 and when I hit "save", close the
document and reopen it, the changes I just made are no
longer there. This is a new computer with Windows XP and
MS Office XP - I should not be having these issues! What
can I do to fix it?
