Word 2002 XP: mail merge ODBC problem?

Hi. I have Filemaker Pro 7 rev 3 on Windows XP SP2. I am trying to
use Filemaker ODBC driver with Microsoft Word XP (2002) for a
mail-merge. When I am in Word and select the Filemaker data source,
Word thrashes for a long time and I have to kill the process because it
is creating a giant temp file in %TEMP% and I eventually I get "low
disk space" error from Windows.

The odd thing is, when I use Excel 2002 to connect to the Filemaker
ODBC, it works fine and pulls the data right into Excel.

Any ideas why Word 2002 is choking on this ODBC file source?
