Word 2002

When I try to open files from a zip disk with Word 2002, it says the files are not available. I think it must be a problem with Word because I have been able to open the files from the disk on other computers. Any advise?

If you are running Norton Antivirus, disabling the Office Plugin that
comes with it usually makes the "file not available" error go away.

By the way, it is usually a bad idea to open/save Word files on
removable media (floppy disks, CD-RWs, zip disks, usb drives, etc.).
You are asking for a corrupted document if you do. It's better to use
Windows to copy the file to your hard drive, then open/save it there,
and use Windows to copy it back to the removable media.

Use My Computer or Windows Explorer to find the OfficeAV.dll file on
your system and note the directory path where it is located. Close all
open applications. From Windows, click on Start | Run. In the Open
dialog box, type the command (including quotes):

Regsvr32 -U "C:\<path>\OfficeAV.dll"

Replace <path> with the directory path for your OfficeAV.dll file.
Click on OK. Hopefully you will get the message: "DllUnregisterServer
in C:\<path>\OfficeAV.dll succeeded."

This is neither a question nor an answer. Which was it meant to be?

Never open documents directly from any type of removable media. Copy the
files to the local HDD and then open them.

Please tell us what happens when you try to open the documents?

I am having a problem with dark dashes suddenly showing up on a page. I
musst have done something to put them in but I don't know what and I can't
remove them. Can anyone tell me how they got there and also how to remove
them now.

I just intsalled Office 2003 on a Windows XP computer and I have the same
problem. No matter where the file is located or what office program I try to
use I get the "file is not available" message. Does anyone know how to fix
this problem?
