I am trying to set up a mail merge that I want to email. Once I've entered
the names and addresses, set up the letter, can I email the merge to someone?

When you have everything setup, one of the destinations to which you can
execute the merge is to email. If you select that option, you will then be
asked to nominate the field in the data source that contains the email
addresses.

Doug has assumed that you want to email the individual merge 'letters' to
the individuals in the data file, whereas you may want to mail the lot to
someone who may wish to complete the merge. That being the case ensure that
you send the merge document, and the data source (which if placed in the
same folder should work).

The data file is the data source from which you selected the merge fields
that you inserted into the mail merge main document.

Do you want to email individual letters to each person in the data source or
email the mail merge main document and its data source to one other person
so that they can execute the merge?

I'm not sure, I think either way would work, but I think he'd like to keep
the data source file in case he ever wants to do a mailing to this group
again.

I don't see how you expect us to know how you organise your filing system -
however there are several ways that you could use to obtain the information.
eg If you run the following macro with the merge document open, it will
write the full path to the data file to a new document.

Dim sData As String
sData = ActiveDocument.MailMerge.DataSource.name
Documents.Add
Selection.TypeText sData
