Word 2003 autocorrect keeps coming back on

I keep turning this off, and it keeps turning itself back on. I HATE
it! I just want Word to type what I type and NOTHING ELSE. I have even
gone to the length of opening the template I'm using and re-saving it
with the damned auto-correct crap turned off, and IT KEEPS COMING BACK
ON! I'm going insane, and if you want a touch of bitter irony, I work
for a company that got bought by Microsoft! Please, please, someone,
help!

What exactly keeps coming back on and what exactly are you turning off
and how are you turning it off?
