Have A Dell Dimension 4600, CPU = 2.4, Memory = 51
20 GIG Hard Driv
WinxXP Home Editio
All elements of Office XP Standard work fine, except for Word '03.
Every time I attempt to open it, I get a Blue Screen crash with
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGE ARE
STOP 0X0000005
(0XFFFFFDF8
0X000000000
0X8053434
OX0000000
BEGINNNING DUMP OF PHYSICAL MEMORY.
No driver conflict is described on the screen.
I have faithfully followed the MSFT knowledge articles concerning
different ways to attempt to fix this startup problem--including:
Deleting the Word data key in the registry,
Re-naming Normal.dot,
Looking in all the office start-up folders (nothing in them),
Deleting the files in the temporary internet folder,
Starting Word with the /a switch
(worked, in that I could at least open Word in Windows).
Attempted to start Word (no /a switch used) in windowsXP safe
mode & still got the blue screen crash.
When I attempt to either repair or remove office via the control
panel ("add & remove"), I repeatedly get a blue screen crash about
two thirds the way through the installation set-up screen in windows
(Using the "detect & repair" option off the help screen of Word 03
accessed with the /a switch still results in the same blue screen.
In other words, I cannot repair or remove office via the control
panel or via the detect-repair option in word 03 itself
I tried to use the Microsoft online support with the following result
I clicked on the button that stated that the problem occurs on my compute
(Not some other computer which is not online at the time)
after I click on this button, I get a blue screen crash.
I already scanned my pc with Norton Anti-virus with negative findings
Also defragged & used chkdisc ("error-checking") with no help
I do not get any other consistent blue screen crashes with any othe
computer activity
Question:
1) Any suggestions on steps I might have missed?
2) Will I ultimately have to do a repair ("in-place upgrade") or
a complete new clean WINXP installation
Thanks
