I have re-posted this query since I have not received a reply:
It seems to me that my Word 2003 program constantly re-issues a corrupted
Normal.dot file after word closes:
If I first remove the Normal.dot file, I can start word in WIN XP without problems.
However, If I then close word & try to re-open it, I immediately get a blue-screen
crash. I have done this multiple times with the same result.
In other words, if I leave the word data registry key intact, but remove the normal.
dot template,I can re-start word without problems. If I reverse the process (remove
the word data registry key, but leave normal.dot intact), then re-start word, I get the
blue screen crash.
Furthermore, when I try to remove Office XP(with the normal.dot and word data regis-
try key deleted first) via the control panel, I still get a blue screen crash after the
program goes through the process of "gathering information."
This also occurs when I try the Microsoft E-mail tech. support--with both the registry
key & normal.dot first deleted--After I click the button stating that the problem happens
on the computer I'm presently using, I again get a blue screen crash.
Question:
Is the Word program corrupted to the point that it continues to create corrupted Normal.
dot files (upon closing word), so that every time I re-open it with the new (and continually
corrupted) normal.dot file, I crash?
Finally, out of curiousity, I clicked on the Normal.dot file itself (in the Documents
and Settings folder) and immediately got a blue screen crash.
In other words, do I need to just do a complete fresh re-install of both Win XP
and Office XP?
Thanks
