Word 2003 cannot save to network drive

Hi

I have a problem recently which has never happened before. This problem
does not affect Excel 2003 but Word 2003 users can no longer save the file
to a network drive with this error message:

"Word cannot save or create this file. Make sure the disk is not full or
write protected. pathfilename"

I'm not sure if this is related but this problem happened about the time
when 3 new PCs with Vista and Office 2007 were added to the Workgroup. The
new PCs with Word 2007 do not have this problem and can save just fine to
the network drive.

The problem is as described in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290982 except
the following
1. Word 2003 can open the Word documents from the network drive, but not
save it.
2. Word 2003 cannot save the file even in RTF or Word for Windows 2.0
format.
3. All PCs are running the normal Microsoft Windows system network drivers.

The workaround is the cumbersome "Save the file to the local hard drive and
move it to the network drive."

Does anyone has a better solution?

If you have Windows 2003 server, make sure it is patched fully up to date.

Make sure that Office 2003 and Windows XPP are fully up to date on the
workstations.

One or other will usually resolve the problem.
