Word 2003 closes when last document is closed

2 of my co-workers are experiencing a problem where Word 2003 is
exiting when they close the last open document.

The Word application closes whether they use "File-Close" or close the
document window (click the lower "x").

I also use Word 2003 but don't have this problem.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

Try this:

1.Close Word
2.Click "Start" in the main menu
3.Click "Run"
4.Now type "winword.exe /a" (without the quotes and with the space between
winword.exe and the /a
5. Click OK
This will open up word in safe mode. Try to close the file.
If the problem does not happen again, that means you have some 3rd party
addin and need to remove it.
If it still reappears try windows safe mode.

You can try renaming the global template (normal.dot)...
To rename it----got to Run type in %appdata%--hit OK---open
Microsoft--Templates-- there you will fine the Normal.dot
Rename it--
It will work--
