word 2003 closes while I am using another program I need for word

I just downloaded a new transcription program- Express Scribe. I need Word
to type the audio into a text document to be recorded as a script. While I
am jumping from Word to Express Scribe, Word suddenly shuts down and leaves
me with no file. When I jump back into Word, the last few sentences are not
saved. Thankfully, it is not an entire page. How can I stop the shutdown of
Word? I need this for my work.

Run Office Setup, Advanced Options and look for the Alternative Inputs
option: mark Handwriting Recognition as not available on my computer and
press OK. Setup will uninstall the handwriting tool and the problem will be
resolved. You can reinstall it again if you need it as it is unlikely to
recur.
