WORD 2003- Command cannot be performed because a dialogue box isopen

I have just installed Microsoft Word 2003 over Word XP. Everything is
functioning somooth, except that when I try to open a file in Word I get
the following message:

"The command cannot be performed because a dialogue box is open. Click
OK, and then close open dialogue boxes to continue".

However, there is nothing else open. So I click OK in the dialogue box
and the document then opens...

How do I get rid of the dialogue box?

Please help!
