Word 2003 crashes - a challenge...

Hi all, I know quite a lot about Word but now have a problem and cannot for
the life of me figure out what is wrong...there have been no installs/changes
to my PC and yet all of a sudden:

Word crashes (as in "Word has encountered a problem and needs to close")
when I try to open documents (seems to be docs containing drawn objects,
tables or images) or when I try to insert an object into a new document. I
have tried uninstalling, reinstalling, detect & repair, deleting Normal.dot,
deleting temp files, and there are no add-ins, etc. and I have no viruses.

Open & Repair on the files that cause a crash doesn't make any difference
and other people can open the same files.

I am completely flummoxed(?) and getting more desperate by the minute.

Can anyone offer any inspiration? - all crumbs gratefully recieved...
