Word 2003 crashes unexpectedly on Sony Vaio

Word unexpectedly crashes, with no error messages, no 'inform microsoft'. It
just simply disappears - including the document I was working on.
Auto-recover fails to work - the latest document state is not available.

Can anyone help?

Out of curiosity, do all other programs work? I am having the same problem.
What is the videocard that you are using? I have the same type of post out
there.

Do you have more than one document open at the time and are you selecting a
document from the Taskbar at the time?

Its a new laptop (model vgn - s2hp) - I've had it a couple of weeks and have
only experienced problems with word to date. My graphics card is an ATI
Mobility Radeon 9200.

I have only just started to look for trends - but I have noticed that I tend
to have more than one document open. I'll post again when it crashes again.

There's a bug in Handwriting Recognition in Office 2003 that causes Word to
close unexpectedly when switching or selecting a document by clicking on its
icon in the Taskbar. To resolve the problem, open the Control Panel, Add
Remove Programs, select Microsoft Office and choose Change. Select Add or
Remove Features, Advanced options for Word and then under Office Shared
Features the top entry will be for Alternative Inputs. Click the little side
arrow and choose 'Not Available'. Click OK and setup will remove the
feature. Once you have tested and found the problem resolved, it is safe to
add the feature again.

Terry, Thanks for this. RE: your earlier post - yes Word crashes exactly as
how you describe. I'll try your resolution and let you know how I get on.

Thanks again.
