Word 2003 crashes when setting language to Spanish and writing anything

I have Win Xp Professional and Office 2003.

When I have a document with the language set completely to Spanish or
a blank document with language set to spanish and write something word
closes immediately without any error message. With a document wwith
the language set to any other language it works fine.

The problem is that I cannot use the language proofing tools for
documents in spanish or cannot open documents that have this settings

There is no handwriting recogmnition set in the regional and languages
settings and have tried almost anything described in these ng for
similar errors

Any ideas of how to solve this
