word 2003 crashing on certain files

When editing certain files in word 03, the application will crash. The
common denominator is that all these files have been created from the same
template. The files are .doc files not .dot. When I look at the properties,
summary tab, it shows the same filename.dot. Other files that I open do not
crash. I deleted the tmp file and I tried opening with the repair command.
Neither resolved the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry, I think I left out something very important... the original template
is not on the hard drive. It was created by someone else and a new document
was created from the template and then saved to a shared drive. This problem
is only happening with one user. Other users can open these files and word
does not crash. When this user opens up any file (that was created from the
template, but not other files), her word crashes.
