Word 2003 crashing when opening a doc

Word is beginning to crash (app closes down) whenever I open a document. I
noticed that it started to happen when I'm detaching a Word document in Lotus
Notes.

i am having a similar problem, I can detach but when i go to save it locally
my computer freezes

When troubleshooting this, I did the following and it seems to help for the
moment:
START, CONTROL PANEL, SYSTEM, ADVANCED (tab), PERFORMANCE (SETTINGS), DATA
EXECUTION PREVENTION, Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services
only.
