Word 2003 default view

Hi all,
I just upgraded to Word2003 and while I haven't explored any of the new features, the opening screen is already bugging me to no ends.

The default view for any new documents has changed in Word 2003. It is the "Print Layout" view, which is great but the first line of text starts right at the top edge which is a huge visual annoyance to me. It's fixed if I "view headers" then close it. That brings back the old print layout which actually shows the whole page.

Question is, how do I change the default view so it looks that way for all new documents? I tried making the change and saving it in normal.dot but that did not work. Sure it's only 4 steps to flip the headers on/off to get the desire view but surely that can't be the only way?

Any pointers will be much appreciated. Thanks.

I expect it's the same as in previous versions; see

I find that Word 2002 (and presumably also Word 2000 and 2003) have a
tendency to be influenced by the currently open document in determining
Zoom, and so possibly view as well. I display most documents at 100%, but
there are a few in which I prefer 105%, and when I've been using that in a
document, Word seems to get stuck at that zoom and use it even for documents
that have been saved at another zoom. Very annoying.
