Word 2003 displaying Documents in plain text

A

Adele Snider

I am having a problem with Word 2003 opening documents that are created with
office 97. It is showing up as plain text I think. Instead of there being a
apostrophe there is an equals sign and the formatting is not the same. If
there is a 1/2 measurement in the document it shows the letter d instead.

Even if I copy text from one computer to another with a screen sharing
session the formatting is still wrong. It will be correct on one computer
but after I paste it into the other comptuers copy of word the formatting is
changed.

I have tried to delete the normal.dot file,
Uninstalling and reinstalling office, repairing office
Checked for profile issue by logging in with multiple username's but still
no luck. I am thinking that it might be a problem with registry but I don't
know

Any help you can give me in this matter would be greatly appreciated
Adele

I am not sure if it was created in word or word perfect
The file opens correctly on other computers attached to the network
just not hers.

Do these other computers have the WP Typographic Symbols font installed?

I am not sure if they are installed yet I am going install service
pack 2 would the WP Typographic Symbols be included?

No, this is a WordPerfect font. If the document originated in WordPerfect,
then it would display correctly on machines that have that font installed.

In that case the issue is not WordPerfect. What font are you using for the
body text?

If you are in Normal view, do you have "Draft font" enabled (Tools | Options
| View)?
