Word 2003 - does not save changes on exit

This one is driving me crazy. When I close a document the prompt to save
changes does not appear. The doc closes and all edits are lost. I have
reinstalled the program, replaced the normal.dot, scanned multiple times for
viruses, etc. I see this same question posed, but now answers. Can someone
help with this?

If anyone is curious about this, the answer is: My profile is corrupted.
Word works just fine if I sign on as another user. Now, how do I fix this
without blowing out my entire profile?
